Frequently Asked Questions
David Tours - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

1) How long have you been operating tours?
David Tours has been around the East African Tourism scene for more than two decades and has since provided thousands of active, inquisitive travelers with adventurous natural history, cultural and wildlife expeditions around the Horn Of Africa. During that time, we have continually researched unique destinations to create expeditions that satisfy our travelers ' desires for safe, stimulating and educational adventures.

2) How do David Tours expeditions differ from others?
Our expeditions are virtually unique in that they offer significant adventure variety; all adventures are low intensity; travelers can choose cultural or sightseeing excursions in place of most adventures; and we typically only use first class or deluxe accommodations.

3) Who will lead my trip?
David Tours employs the services of some of the most educated, competent, and affable naturalist guides available. On certain expeditions, you may have several local guides along the way, each of whom will provide you with personal insight into their area's natural and cultural history. If you have a particular trip focus, such as birding or botany, we will work with you to provide the established guide whose background, education, and training will best match your specific needs.

4) What memberships and affiliations does David Tours maintain?
David Tours are members of the kenya Association of Tour Operators. In addition, David Tours makes contributions to the communities visited by our travelers.

5) What is the profile of your typical traveler?
Our expedition members come from all over the world and have a wide variety of backgrounds. Most are well-educated, inquisitive, enthusiastic people who share common interests in such areas as soft adventure, natural history, cultural anthropology and geographical exploration. For David Tours's land-based programs, over half of our participants are between the ages of 40 and 65. They travel as singles, couples, and families. Our adventure cruising travelers are generally slightly older. Above all, David Tours travelers are explorers who are looking to immerse themselves in an environment altogether different from their own.

6) What kind of accommodations can I expect?
We believe in a philosophy of "adventure by day, comfort by night". We typically use only first class or deluxe hotels (or deluxe tented camps) with a local flavor. Our deluxe tented camps and jungle eco-lodges all have private bathrooms with hot water and flush toilettes.

7) What are the benefits of your independent travel programs?
David Tours's independent travel programs offer the same benefits as group tours-private airport transfers and private tours with expert guides. The David Tours independent traveler receives more personalized service than a member of a group. Moreover, the independent traveler benefits from guaranteed weekly departures during the season.

8) How will you help me prepare for my trip?
From recommended reading lists and destination travel guides to visa and health information, we deliver the most current pre-departure travel information possible, allowing you the opportunity to gain the most out of your travel experience.

Yes! Vaccination requirements change from time to time and we suggest clients consult their local doctor or health department for the latest health precautions.
Malaria: Malaria including Plasmodium falciparum exists in certain areas. There are many brands available and we recommend that clients consult their doctor or health department as to which brand they should take.

The limit is one soft luggage bag per person with a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 lbs.). (Camera equipment is excluded from the foregoing.). No hard (i.e. Plastic/Samsonite) suitcases may be taken on safari. Only back packs without frames will be permitted. As luggage is packed on the roof racks of the safari vehicles it is recommended that clients use old or inexpensive luggage. Also note that should you not strictly adhere to the luggage restrictions you will be responsible for any additional cost arising out of the transportation of any excesses.

15) What kind of safari clothes should I pack?
As you are travelling on a partly accommodated safari you will require clothing for evening wear at the various hotels and lodges. The emphasis is however on comfortable, casual and semi-casual wash and wear clothes. Please note that bright colours are not suitable for gameviewing. Please take note that game drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon at which times (especially in the winter months) it can be very cold.

16) What kind of insurance should I take out for my safari trip?
Comprehensive travel insurance is recommended on all our safaris. Please ensure that your insurance covers cancellation and curtailment, personal accident, medical and baggage. The policy taken out should provide world-wide coverage. International clients should purchase insurance prior to their arrival in East Africa. We will help you get the best and most economical cover.
